Memorial Weekend Plans?

Just wondering what everyone's memorial weekend plans are?   We are going to load up the horses and head to my Uncle's Lake house in Clinton at Bucksaw lake.  Were going to be riding horses all weekend, fishing, trap shooting, swimming, just having a good ol' time.  Cannot wait!!  Hope everyone has a safe and fun Memorial Weekend!!!

My dream horse

This is a Blue Roan Quarter horse, quite possibly the most beautiful horse I have ever seen.  Blue Roan refers to the color of the horse.  Horses with this color tend to be more expensive, but in my opinion would be worth the money.

Teach Kids proper horsemanship and respect for their horse!!!!

It is so important to teach kids who have horses to take care of them.  Grooming your horse before and after you ride, or even just when you go out to feed.  This teaches the children to respect the horse and helps the horse and child to develop a bond.   Also, teaches the kids responsibilty.  Kylie loves cleaning her horses feet.  The back legs of a horse can be very scary to a lot of people.  Theres a lot of power and pain that can be inflicted with those back legs.  Kylie has been raised around horses ever since she was a baby, so she does not really have that fear of horses.

My daughter the barrel racer

My daughter is 8 years old and has recently started barrel racing and rodeoing.  Right now she's just at fun shows, mainly competing to learn what it is all about and get used to the whole scene.  She took fourth in barrels and won the boot race.  The boot race is when they take all the kids boots off throw them at the end of the arena, all the kids line up race down, find their boots, and sprint back.  It was hilarious to watch, you could see the determination on her face she did not care if she stepped on anything, she just hauled butt down to the end of the arena.

My other baby....This is Duke this was last summer so he is bigger now.  He is a Blue Merle Great Dane....such a good dog, he's not the brightest bulb in the box, but he is a great dog that loves unconditionally!!!
HORSES ARE NOT OUR WHOLE LIVES, BUT THEY MAKE OUR LIVES WHOLE!!!
Tango and I did a lot of riding this weekend.  He was good for the most part.  He is young so he is challenging.  He tried to buck me a few times today but realized I was not going anywhere so he cut that out.  Got him out in the pasture at a full run and the little boy has got some speed to him.  Still very clumsy but I enjoy him none the less.   It was a beautiful day for riding today.  We had a little group out at the farm, it was a lot of fun.  Had a little BBQ in between rides.  Just can't beat that.  Next weekend is Tango's first trail ride.  Were going to my Uncles lake house in Clinton for four days of nothing but horses, fishing, shooting, and swimming its going to be a blast!!  Hope he behaves!!

Tango has lost about one hundred pounds in a week.  This is nothing to cause alarm, but I decided to change his feed up.  I will start tomorrow with the new feed which is 32% protein....this is probably going to cause him to be even more onry and quite a handful.  It should however help him really put on some weight and fill out.
Tango's first riding session went very well.  I used training forks on him to take his head away from him and he responded very well. When I lope him he looks absolutely beautiful!!  He is a very smart horse and a lot of fun to work with.  However, he can be very aggressive when its time for chow.  He recently figured out I simply will not give him his food if he doesn't stay away from me when I'm putting the food out.
After Tango adjusted to the new settings for a week, we went to the arena for our first experience together.  Let me tell ya it was a sight to be seen!  In the horse trading business there tends to be a lot of white lies told.  Now, my grandfather is definitely guilty of leading people to believe they are getting something they are not when they buy a horse from him, but I do not believe in that.  I always try to be upfront and honest with people.  The couple I bought Tango from however, neglected to tell me a few things, and lied about several things.

I brought Tango out of the pasture into the arena and tied him up to one of the posts like I do any other horse.  Well, after about five minutes of grooming Tango had had enough.  He had a level 5 come apart.  He reared up and pulled back so hard on his halter and lead that he broke the halter.  He than began to prance around the arena like he had really just accomplished something.  The first problem had now come up.  He will not stand tied.  As of now he will stand quietly tied.

Hello, My name is Jessica Hardy and this blog is going to be about my horse that I just bought.  I grew up on my grandfathers farm riding and selling his horses since I was itty, bitty.  He buys the horses, I ride them and then resell them.  I have ridden and sold so many horses I could never count them.  The longest I would have a horse is a few years and then when someone would make an offer on that horse he or she was gone.  Tango, is the very first horse I have ever owned that is mine.  I bought him and my grandfather cannot sell him.  He is a Palomino Paint, he is four years old, and extremely onry.  He does have some previous training, but also has a lot of bad habits that need to be worked out.  This blog is going to be about Tango and I's adventure together, learning and growing with one another.
